The Beginning I remember only three years ago I was sitting at home writing my application to join the e-Communication 21st Century program. This year has been the year that I have learned most.Mainly because I have been so busy with projects put on my hands. I have grown not only in learning ways to edit and the six shot system but also how to be professional and have projects due on a certain date. Ways I have grown this year: 1.) I have grown this semester by me trying to use the six shot system more consistently in my projects, but also by sequencing them. I did a project with my friend Sean McPartland, and we went to go get B-roll. We agreed that I would do the B-roll and interview set-up if he edits, and I would say that by far it is the best work I have done.
2.) I have also tried working on my writing skills. I have grown so comfortable to writing articles that in my English class sometimes I catch myself writing in a article/blog kind of way. I have actually looked at my old post to my post now, and I have seen real improvement, not only in my word choice, but how it is more attention grabbing and professional. I feel that I have really improved in my writing, of course their is still more to learn for better writing but I have made big leaps to better article/blog writing.
3.)Some videos I have edited this year have been some of my better projects. I incorporate the six shot system with the sports I cover. You can never have to much B-roll. You can always use more of it. Volleyball was my fall sport and I filmed one of their games and it was a good experience because for me to get the best shots I had to move around to multiple places.
Goals for the coming year: 1.) I want to improve on my editing. I feel you can always improve on editing, and the more stuff you know to do the better because then the better your video/package will look.
2.) Pre-planning my video projects, and make sure that it flows into a good story.
Final Thoughts
I have been in e-Comm since freshmen year and each year I like it more. I hope to continue my hard work. I'm glad I have met the people in here, because we all get along and it is always good to end my day in S.I.D.
