Documentary: Tony Wagner

Documentary Proposal

A proposal is a thorough explanation of your project. It is created in the pre-production phase to persuade funders, distributors and others to support the project.

1.     Working title: Unexpected Path

2.     Producers: Luis Ruiz & Sean McPartland

3.     Controlling idea: This documentary is about a young adult who was all of a sudden and unexpectedly a person who’s father passed away and was running his business and also trying to keep his life on track. In the academy to become a firefighter, and he is striving so far.

My documentary is about Tony who has had somewhat of a hard life from being a football player at ONW/ON to his dad passing away this past summer to now inspiring him to be a firefighter. The main conflict is between passing of his father to him wanting and becoming a firefighter. Ultimately, I want the audience to feel that someone who has had somewhat a rough life can turn their life around and become something through the struggles and to understand that you can get through struggles in your life.

4.     Main characters: Write a paragraph about EACH of your main characters. For each, include:
a.     Who (name, relationship to others in the film) Tony Wagner
b.     Where (Where does this person fit in the scheme of things?) Kansas
c.     What (What is the character’s role? What makes the character interesting?) He is the protagonist who is trying to overcome barriers in his life. He is an everyday young adult, going through struggles what most people don’t go through.

5.     Conflict: What is at issue in the film? Passing the academy, keeping his life balanced
a.     Who wants what of whom?
b.    How will one force meet with the other? (Climax) By him passing the academy and starting adulthood.

6.    Resolution: Write about how you imagine your film will end and what you would like the ending to accomplish for the audience. Him graduating and the beginning of his life after completing the academy.
