Hardly working to hard working

The Beginning I remember only three years ago I was sitting at home writing my application to join the e-Communication 21st Century program. This year has been the year that I have learned most.Mainly because I have been so busy with projects put on my hands. I have grown not only in learning ways to edit and the six shot system but also how to be professional and have projects due on a certain date.
Ways I have grown this year:

1.) I have grown this semester by me trying to use the six shot system more consistently in my projects, but also by sequencing them. I did a project with my friend Sean McPartland, and we went to go get B-roll. We agreed that I would do the B-roll and interview set-up if he edits, and I would say that by far it is the best work I have done.

2.) I have also tried working on my writing skills. I have grown so comfortable to writing articles that in my English class sometimes I catch myself writing in a article/blog kind of way. I have actually looked at my old post to my post now, and I have seen real improvement, not only in my word choice, but how it is more attention grabbing and professional. I feel that I have really improved in my writing, of course their is still more to learn for better writing but I have made big leaps to better article/blog writing.

3.) Some videos I have edited this year have been some of my better projects. I incorporate the six shot system with the sports I cover. You can never have to much B-roll. You can always use more of it. Volleyball was my fall sport and I filmed one of their games and it was a good experience because for me to get the best shots I had to move around to multiple places.

Goals for the coming year:
1.) I want to improve on my editing. I feel you can always improve on editing, and the more stuff you know to do the better because then the better your video/package will look.

2.) Pre-planning my video projects, and make sure that it flows into a good story.

Final Thoughts
I have been in e-Comm since freshmen year and each year I like it more. I hope to continue my hard work. I'm glad I have met the people in here, because we all get along and it is always good to end my day in S.I.D.

Documentary: Tony Wagner

Documentary Proposal

A proposal is a thorough explanation of your project. It is created in the pre-production phase to persuade funders, distributors and others to support the project.

1.     Working title: Unexpected Path

2.     Producers: Luis Ruiz & Sean McPartland

3.     Controlling idea: This documentary is about a young adult who was all of a sudden and unexpectedly a person who’s father passed away and was running his business and also trying to keep his life on track. In the academy to become a firefighter, and he is striving so far.

My documentary is about Tony who has had somewhat of a hard life from being a football player at ONW/ON to his dad passing away this past summer to now inspiring him to be a firefighter. The main conflict is between passing of his father to him wanting and becoming a firefighter. Ultimately, I want the audience to feel that someone who has had somewhat a rough life can turn their life around and become something through the struggles and to understand that you can get through struggles in your life.

4.     Main characters: Write a paragraph about EACH of your main characters. For each, include:
a.     Who (name, relationship to others in the film) Tony Wagner
b.     Where (Where does this person fit in the scheme of things?) Kansas
c.     What (What is the character’s role? What makes the character interesting?) He is the protagonist who is trying to overcome barriers in his life. He is an everyday young adult, going through struggles what most people don’t go through.

5.     Conflict: What is at issue in the film? Passing the academy, keeping his life balanced
a.     Who wants what of whom?
b.    How will one force meet with the other? (Climax) By him passing the academy and starting adulthood.

6.    Resolution: Write about how you imagine your film will end and what you would like the ending to accomplish for the audience. Him graduating and the beginning of his life after completing the academy.
